OBJECTIVE:
The objective of Alaska's Nautical Training School is to prepare our students to pass the USCG exams which are administered by an A. N.T.S. Instructor and to become a licensed Master of vessels up to 100 GT (80 Hr.), OUPV Near Coastal (56 Hour) and OUPV Restricted to the Freshwaters and Rivers of Western Alaska (16 Hours).(back to top)

PREREQUISITES:
You do not have to meet any of the Coast Guard requirements to take our course. We will furnish a Coast Guard application packet in class and help you fill it out.  

The USCG has announced that they will be enforcing the TWIC requirement. This card is a new requirement and has to be applied for from the TSA. For more information click here.

SERVICE REQUIREMENTS:
OUPV  RESTRICTED TO THE FRESHWATERS AND RIVERS OF WESTERN ALASKA - 120 days total service - 30 days may be on a drift boat being used on guided trips - 90 days on motorized vessels.

OUPV NEAR COSTAL INCLUDES 6 PACK LICENSE- 360 days total service including at least 90 days on near coastal waters.

MASTER 100 GT INLAND INCLUDES 6 PACK LICENSE - 360 days total service on any waters. 90 days on vessels over 50 GT, or 180 days on vessels over 34 GT. (with smaller vessels may get 50 GT or 25 GT). A Masters License is NOT a limited license.

MASTER 100 GT NEAR COASTAL INCLUDES 6-PACK - 720 days total service including at least 360 days on near coastal waters. 180 days on vessels over 50 GT, or 360 days on vessels over 34 GT (with smaller vessels, may get 50 GT or 25 GT).(back )

OUPV RESTRICTED TO THE FRESHWATERS AND RIVERS OF WESTERN ALASKA (16 Hours). MASTER UP TO 100 GT NEAR COSTAL (INCLUDES 6 PACK LICENSE, 80 Hours). OUPV NEAR COASTAL, 6-Pack (56-Hours).   (back to top)

STUDENT PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Students in the Masters class must score 90% on Rules of the Road and 70% on the other three tests to meet USCG requirements for licensing. Students will be given practice tests at the end of each subject. Free tutoring will be offered after classes each day if needed.. Freshwaters scores must be 80% or more. (back to top)

CERTIFICATION:
Students will receive certificates upon sucessful completion which can then be used to obtain a USCG License with no further testing. Student's grades must meet USCG specifications. (back to top)

TUITION:
The tuition includes all class materials, publications, navigation tools, workbooks, tide tables and tidal current books. 100 Ton Masters course is $700.00 in Anchorage and $800.00 outside Anchorage. The OUPV Freshwaters and Rivers of Western Alaska is $225.00 in Anchorage, $300.00 outside Anchorage. OUPV Near Coastal is $500 in Anchorage and $600 outside Anchorage.

Separate fees will have to be paid by the students for individual drug tests and  physical exams. Our students get discounted rates. Also special rates on lodging. TWIC cards are $132.50.

Red Cross CPR / First Aid training is available in our classroom for $50 as needed for the Masters, OUPV Near Coastal and OUPV Restricted to Freshwaters and Rivers classes.

PAYMENT TERMS:
Masters Class and OUPV Near Coastal: A $200 deposit is required with the balance due on or before the first day of class. (Financing by ANTS is available.)

FRESHWATER & RIVERS OF WESTERN ALASKA: Payment in full upon registration.

There is financial aid available through JTPA some Native Corporations and Job Service. We will be glad to advise students on the available financing for their area. We offer interest free financing (e-mail ants@mtaonline.net for details). (back to top)

REFUND POLICY:
PLEASE NOTICE:

The required deposit will be refunded to the student upon cancellation by the student at least four days before the first day of class.

After the first day of class, no refunds will be given.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Because of the short duration of the course, only unavoidable absences will be excused. Any portion missed must be made up on the student's own time. Leave of absence will most likely result in rescheduling to a class at a later date and will be handled on a case by case basis. (back to top)

SCHEDULE: 
100 Ton Masters License (includes 6 Pack License) is 80 classroom hours.
OUPV Restricted to the Freshwaters and Rivers of Western Alaska class is 16 hours. OUPV Near Coastal is 56 hours. Class instruction includes lectures, videos and a workbook containing all the subject matter to satisfy or exceed USCG requirements. (back to top)

SCHOOL CALENDAR:
Holidays observed by Alaska's Nautical Training School are New Years, Easter, 4th July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Classes will be offered on a space available basis. (back to top)

Students must act in an orderly manner at all times while in the classroom or while on the premises. (back to top)

GRIEVANCES:
Students with grievances should follow these steps:
1.  Discuss the situation with the instructor. If the grievance persists:
2.  Discuss the situation with school administrator.

TRANSFER OF CREDITS:
We cannot guarantee the transfer of credits from this institution to another. The transfer of credits as always, is at the discretion of the receiving school and depends on the comparability of curricula and accreditaion. (back to top)
